On my 74 f250 4x4 highboy has 360 engine. the front springs are 6 leaf and sit almost flat, very little bow. (no engine in truck)
the parts I bought with the steering box, front axle assembly the front springs are 7 leaf and has about a 4 inch bow. (axle and springs only)
which springs do I use., never seen a 7 leaf.
There are several spring packs for different GVW ratings. do you have the big hubs or the standard hubs ? or know the GVW on your door tag.
I'd have to look and see how many leaf mine are I have the heavy GVW. the heavier springs sit slightly higher which I like but the ride is AWFUL. either one will work it's whatever you prefer.
Springs can sag over time. and the other springs you have would come down a bit with the weight on them. but sometimes I think the originals are better than the new ones. my pickup sits absolutely perfect on the original 45 year old springs. if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Factory highboys are 6 leaf and should sit with some arch even with the motor in it.
Do the ends of all the leaves on the 7 leaf pack look the same? 7 leaf pack might be a highboy set with an add a leaf. Lots of people fix sagging front leafs with an add a leaf to get back to stock height. Problem is that makes a stiff front end even stiffer.
Do you want the truck to be stock height or lifted?
A working plow truck or one with the heavy FE motors or both will have the higher GVW rated spring in front.
Timbrens are an excellent add on to this scenario also.
I bought a set of 6 leaf locally ,, Stanley Springs ,, they are 6 leaf and come with new bushings. at $235.00 a piece and got new U bolts that they bend right away for you, any length!. Way to much moola from LMC and then 150 bucks to ship!
The old ones have 7 leaf, same length and eyes but looks like there is a added leaf.
