74 steering box conversion

I have a 74 f250 4x4 highboy that I am installing a 78-79 power steering box and front axle with disk brakes.
I bought a plate kit from ebay but how do I know where to drill the holes. I assume that to far forward or back and the box will not be centered.
Any specs out there.

Its a Saturday afternoon, most of us are out working on our trucks and not checking the forum. Give it more than 2 hours and you’ll probably give it a response.

I mocked mine up and then turned the wheels to lock both ways to make sure I could before hitting anything. Pictures of your work notching the frame?

The kit on Ebay with the four flat pieces and the spacers? Where did you cut the notch?

I did not cut anything yet, looking for info on the cuts and where to mount the bolt hole plate, or should I install the 79 disk brake axle first the take a rough guess...hmmm

Shouldn't need a rough guess, if you bought the kit I referred to above one of the plates is used as a depth gauge for the notch.

Is this what you bought? Bracket Kit

This shows the location of the holes. 72 Highboy, Added 78 Power Steering - The FORDification.com Forums

I see you are also installing the front axle. What are you going to use for the drag link? When I did mine to keep the geometry right I had to install a 3" steering block as I couldn't find a Ford raised steering arm. I made the drag link using GM the rods and sleeve.

Here is the steering block, note it's Ford specific.

when I bought the axle and box the guy said everything is there for the swap, it looked like the frame crossmember was already cut, but was a botched up job.
I did not see that block but it has the drag link with the parts. I wanted to do it right with the plate kit

Is the “new” axle a low pinion (1976) a high pinion (1978-79)?

The drag link won't work in your highboy. To get the steering steering arm in plane with the pitman arm you will need a block.

Now add 3" of drop to the steering and you will quickly see the issue when installed on a highboy.
