Never worked on a 7.3 before. It's a 96 or a 97 I believe. I've got the flow chart. WtS comes on, Tach moves, cranks quickly, no smoke.
The truck did start and run about a year ago when it was parked but it needs injector cups, which is why it was parked.
I checked youtube and see where the fuel bowl is now so I'm going to check that next. I also found what I believe to be the ICP and unplugged that but no difference; a trick I remembered from my 6.0 days. It's oily though so I expect it's bad and needs to be replaced anyway.
Also through some searching I found someone who had a similar issue, and found that their HPOP reservoir was empty and if they filled it by hand the truck would start. Where/how would I try that? Right now the truck is in some tall grass and I'd love to get it moved to the garage about 200 feet away.
If anybody is in the Dallas area I'm not too proud to be taught/helped and willing to pay. This truck may end up at a shop but tow + shop rates kind of hurt!
The HPOP reservoir is at the top, front, center of the engine. It is approx. 3"x 6" aluminum box. There should be a plug in the top. The oil should be about 1/2" from the top.

Awesome, I know exactly what you're talking about, thank you!
Verify that the fuel bill is full and pumps actually working. The mechanical pump is located just behind the bowl on top of the engine. There is a Schrader valve on the side of the bowl to check pressure
Thanks. I did check the fuel bowl after looking it up and it had fuel. I drained it anyway, then cycled the key and checked again and it was full again. I then reinstalled the cap, cycled the key, and hit the Schrader valve and it squirted so I believe I have basic fuel pressure.
I just pulled the sensor off the top of the hpop reservoir and stuck a 3" screwdriver in there and it came back completely dry. I checked the crankcase and if anything it's over full. Now I'm looking for a funnel small enough to fill the hpop reservoir.
That did the trick! About 10-15 more seconds of cranking after filling the HPOP and it fired up. Surging and not happy for a little while after that and then it smoothed out and I was able to move it. I'll do some more searching around now and make another thread about the cause and fix of an empty HPOP reservoir if need be.
Hey thanks a ton for the offer. Are you familiar with doing injector cups? That's the main thing (at least right now) that's come up where I'll still do it but would feel more comfortable if someone whose already done it successfully was there.
Also I just learned that this is a 97 built in Mexico truck. It's a really weird truck, but that's part of why I like it.
Ah, could make sense. I have never had to diag that issue. A few places rent that tool and a few sell it. At that point may want to do injectors while apart.
I would probably knock out one bank, driver's first, then do other later.
Easily a snowball repair type of deal fixing items that need attention while down.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to find anywhere that has the riffraff style tool for sale or rent, and I really don't want to use the kind that you hammer.

I am pretty sure Riffraff rents their tool if you buy the cups from them.
