trucks haunted!

Hey! I have a 86 ford ranger 4wd with a 2.9. I have thrown about $1500 in parts at it trying to find a little miss and hesitation in it. some time it's real bad sometimes you don't notice it at all. Everything from the computer to the cat has been reaplaced. coil, o2 sensor, egr, tfi module, cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, intake gaskets, ballest resistor, fuel pressure reg. muffler, air bypass soliniod, throttle body cleaned, k&n filter. there are no fault codes. Maybe fuel pump? or something in the tanks(it does have duel tanks it seems weird that both would do the same thing, but hey you never know) The fuel pressure is good. timing is right on. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Way out in left field, one might consider an 86 to be a high mileage vehicle. With this comes worn timing chains and distributors. Just for fun, put the timing light on it and pay close attention to the position of the timing mark. If you can see clearly that the mark is NOT always in the same place, then you have slack in the timing chain. The more that it varies, the more slack there is in the chain. With that, you can ballpark the wear in the distributor. Take the cap off of the distributor and try to wiggle the shaft sideways.
