Last night had an electrical fire in my truck. Everyone is ok, obvs need new harness. I am going to purchase a new wire harness and am looking at options, either the 21 circuit or 28 circuit, painless preferably. Wanting to add electric windows, radio, what do you ppl think ?
thank you for all the help in advance.
Sorry you release the smoke... that makes for a frantic few seconds, eh ?? A 21 will probably be all you need. I used EZ-wire 21 circuit and had extra wires. Wires labeled every foot or so and already grouped (sorta) as to where they go (front, cab, rear) some if mine were in different places and had to be rerouted. I have elect door latches, windows, front flip, wipers, trans cooler, etc plus all the standard lights, radio and doo hickeys and still had lines I didn't use. The only complaint I had was the lack of wiring diagram in the instructions (they don't offer that where Painless does) and some of the markings are a little hard to read..i.e. light blue lettering on a dark blue wire.
Overall I'm pleased and only had a couple of snafus that were totally my fault, their tech guy is very helpful but more detail in the install manual would have eliminated a few calls..
Got lots of help on this forum from CharlieLed and others... You will have to supply terminals, heat shrink, wire looms, ground wires and tools... crimper and soldering iron etc, and patience. don't rush the job and it's pretty straight forward. Another suggestion, when you get tired or frustrated...walk away till later.
