B]I have just rebiult my 302 out of a 92 f150. I upgraded to a Ford Racing E303 cam 10 to 1 compression on windsor heads and some other things but those two are the questions I have it has been run in and the truck acts fine good idle and all that. It occasionaly backfires through the intake but only in gear and not past 1500 rpms. In park or nuetral it doesnt do it unless revved up after sitting a while. Im out of ideas on it and wonder if you guys might have an answer to help.[/B]
So was the 302 roller ready or did you have to machine it? Just qurious. I would look your timing first, that would be the simplest thing to cause this. Later
The motor was already roller but I did replace the lifters aswell. I thought about timing too. As best I can tell you the cam was put in right. I didnt degree it in though. I was told that wouldnt matter.
If you put the cam in straight up then that shouldn't be an issue. I would check the timing first get it where it should be if it still persists check for vaccum leaks if still nothing you probably need to adjust the carb. Later and let us know if you find the problem
The truck is still efi. Speed Density. The only thing i know is that the computer is retarding the timing alot. I am waiting on a custom chip before I can say for sure thats the prob.
i had a similar prob on an 88 bronco 351 if you change the geometry of the valve train and also compression ratio with the speed density the computer has no way of knowing about the change if it was mass air then yes but unless you do modifying tricks with a differnt fuel pressure regulator then there is no way of compensation a mild cam change had a small effect what is your duration.
here this is what i was talking about your going to have to change out your fuel pressure regulator it only allows for a predetermined amount of fuel that your original eng would use when you ask for more fuel (cam heads ) then it gives you all it has and does not know how much is really needed so you have to give it an attitude ajustment also mod the comp check this out https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/a...ic/147272.html good luck laters
Thanks, I have been lookin into an adjustable fuel pressure regulator since I have already had to replace one due to it running very rich. I know I will need one of them and I was figuring maybe a higher stall converter would help it too.
