Hello. Long time follower first time I am posting something. I have searched all over and have only found one thread with only minor info on what issue I am having and I would like opinions and any help I can get because I am at a loss. I have an 08 f250. I bought it used and it has a transmission upgrade and a dpf delete. I have no idea what tune is on it as the dealer kinda bs'ed me on a few things. I have edge insight but the boost reading pegs at over 2000psi then drops to zero and starts reading then back to 2k. I also can't read my dtc's for some reason with it and my feelings are the dealer has something to do with it. But I get off topic just trying to give as much background as I can my problem is with the turbo. I have serious lag at take off and notices that there is separation on the intake side and separation where the high and low pressure turbos join. I am including pics and if anyone can tell me what I need to do to fix this I would appreciate it
WIth the condition it's in I will replacing most of it eventually but I would like to know if I can fix it to get me another couple of months . Thanks in advanced.
What you see is somewhat normal. Those two turbos do not bolt together and I doubt it is leaking there since I don't seen any exhaust carbon. There are two bolts that hold clamps that secure the turbo to the lifter valley. Make sure they are tight. If you feel like you must try to get them closer together then unbolt the bottom clamps, get a couple of bolts for the turbo flange and tighten them until you feel comfortable. FWIW, I've never seen any bolted tight. If I were you I would leave it alone. That's not the cause of your issues.
Edit to add: It dawned on me after I typed this that the turbos are set in pins on their mounting brackets. You can't move the turbos. If you do you will damage the alignment pins or the turbos themselves. When I disassembled the turbos on my core engine I had to use prybars and a cherry picker to get them off. There is no room for any movement there at all.
Thank you for the info. So you do not think the separation there or at the intake side is an issue? That is good to hear. There is carbon build up on the firewall but I am thinking that may be an the downpipe. I have them on the way. I did notice today when I start the truck the turbo actuator does not go thru its self check and if I can remember correctly every timei turned the key on my other 08 it moved. Also I am getting some black smoke from start till the high pressure side kicks in.
If your turbo actuator isn't cycling when key is turned on it most likely is your issue. You should be getting a code or two if the actuator isn't functioning.
