I just got a new camper van 89 E350 and ordered a hellwig front swaybar #7008. Hellwig says the only one that fits is the #7158 which is discontinued. What is the difference between the two? Summit says the #7008 will fit.Any insight would help. Thanks
I've been using Hellwig front and rear sway bars since 2008 or so----can not say enough great things about them, their engineering ideas second to none IMHO.
Although their customer service/tech rep can be a bit tough to contact via telephone he'll usually reply to an email contact in a day or so. I'm running a 2005 E-350 extended body weighing in at about 8,400#, was suggested I look into using their version of "short wheel base motor home" bars and for my needs they're irreplaceable.
I've also used the stock offerings for the E-250/E-350 stock or normal chassis and they too work very well, adding the rear one even without upgrading the front to Hellwig is a huge handling improvement.
FWIW I also run Bilstein shocks in the same "short wheel base motor home" configuration. Very stout but with my daily driver weight they work great.
I could dig out my Hellwig part numbers installed but it would take a day or so---been crazy busy with work. Glad to help if I can.
Thank you guys,
Im trying to figure it out before the return time runs out. The van is in a another state and it will be a few weeks before go down and pick it up. Just makes me nervous when the hellwig rep recommends their competitor.Hoping someone who has used the #7008 on a E350 not a cutaway. Not sure why they would be different.
Again Thanks
Ok even more confused. Just found out the van is a 89 E350 XLT SUPER DUTY.
The rear looks right. #7183
Hellwig says the #7008 is for the cutaway only. The #7158 has been discontinued.
My question is why would the front be different for the cutaway and the E350 super duty?
I wish I had the van so I could physically hold it up there.
Thanks for any and all info.
I am no authority on any vehicle, but to my knowledge the SUPER DUTY series of van or trucks did not exist until somewhere around 1998. Maybe I'm just looking at this the wrong way or maybe whoever is looking up or listing parts is transposing the 1989 into 1998?
