Will P2201 clear itself? Answer: YES

Will a P2201 clear itself after a certain amount of time/miles with out a recurrence?

Had a CEL pop up. TorqPro shows that it is a ‘Historical’ code. Still researching but I think that means that it did occur but is not currently happening. But I don’t know for sure.

If it's a historical code it will eventually drop off unless it is a intermittent issue. Then it will reset in the history file and may not go away. I'm not sure how many ignition cycles it takes before a history code is deleted but if yours continues to stay in history it would be due to a recurring issue.

Having a code in history is inconsequential. It's not doing anything by being there other than serving as a potential data point. It doesn't make your truck more vulnerable to a problem. Very briefly, when a sensor reports bad news to the computer, the computer runs that value against parameters and lights the MIL and enters the code and the live data freeze frame into the computer. For most codes to set, the computer wants to see two occurrences of the fault at different times, normally called a drive cycle. Sensors don't always perform to laboratory specification and the two drive cycle threshold helps to eliminate false triggers. It may set a pending code, but you won't see that. Some faults will immediately trigger a code or put the drivetrain in limp home mode. If your computer sets a hard code and turns on the MIL, the MIL will stay lit until the issue is resolved. It does happen where you have an intermittent problem that will set an active code, and then the problem goes away. When that happens and again, the parameters are met -like the two drive cycles- the light will turn off and the code will move to history. You see this a lot where someone fiddled around the engine compartment and unplugged a sensor by mistake.

I recommend that you not erase any codes, active, pending, or historical. Those codes are data points that might be useful in resolving another issue down the road.

The Answer is YES

The answer is 'YES'.
I can confirm that a P2201 will clear itself after a period of time without any recurrences.
I can't say what the specific requirements are. I had approximately 5 restarts and maybe 100-150 miles over the course of 5-7 days of regular city/hwy driving.
