Question Stumped

Hey guys,

Just picked up a 86 f250 4x4 (used government vehicle and on checking rear diff 39 on crown and 10 on pinion gear makes this a 390. Ford did not come out with 390 in 86 so if the rear end was not changed could someone give me some insite into reason

Check the door tag....was it actuallu manufactured in 86???

In 86 the 250's had DANA rears in them .. I don't think they had a 3.90 ratio .. I do know that there was a 3.91 in 9" .. check the fronnt diff and see if there is a tag left on it .. and like said in another reply .. chck the axel code on the door and it will tell you what was in it from the factory .. over the years its no telling what is in there know ... good luck !

In 1985, ford started using Sterling rears in F250s. After that, fords only had dana fronts..

unless it was swapped already..
