I keep finding irritating things on this X. I'm thinking 03 may not have been a good year. This guy baked in the California sun most of its life. When I got it (bought online--and no don't say it!) it was dirty. The pics looked like the paint had a reasonable gloss to it. So I wash it and afterwards I look at it and think this ain't right. The paint is rough as he!!. After 18 years, it's not going to be pristine but it feels like sandpaper. The roof really looks bad. I wiped a spot with acetone and it helped by a noticeable amount. Strangely the passenger side doors and vertical part of the fender are normal. The driver side is rough, except for the crap door paintjob which flakes off. I'm thinking whatever micro brain who did it got overspray on it. So I know I'm into clay, a round or 2 of compound and then wax wax and buff. Does anyone know of an easier way to get that overspray off? I did 1 test spot with clay and it was better but it is going to be one more of a job to do all of that. I imagine a detailer would want 4 figures (I would)
equivilant to 1000 grit so it will buff out pretty tiny scrtaches and makes quick work of over spay and such.
best if used with a Dual Action polisher with variable speed.
there are "better" cxertainly more expensive polishers on the maerket but I see a lot of the crews using the Porter Cable. https://amzn.to/2UGYNnn
I use a 18v Milwaukee cordless and it will do the side of my 40' fifth wheel on 1 battery but note that a singe action polisher or grinder can burn the paint fairly easy if you don't use the correct technique.
they can do a larger surface in less time but its actually more strenous work because you have to keep it moving to avoid paint burn. perfect for big trailers or boat hulls not great for your Porsche or even your Ex. https://amzn.to/35VGi0U
FWIW, I spend my Summers as a kid polishing boats so I tend to chat with the crews down at the docks doing the yacts I work on.
Fwiw, here is the how to for aqua buff.

the spray bottle to mist the surface is key but don’t ket it get so wet it flings liquid everywhere or you risk getting your polishers trigger wet, shocking yourself and falling off the ladder. Ask me how i know
