I own a 2000 7.3 that was bulit for what is now high sulfur fuel ..
Replaced 8 injectors at 230,000 miles 2 failed .. Due to lubricity problems ..
Used to use cetane improver/anti-gel only in winter ..
Because of lubricity I now add 16 oz. of 2 cycle oil per tank about 25 gal.
2 cycle oil is low ash so it doesn't build up deposits in the combustion
chambers or on valves .. Hopfully provides lubricity the missing sulfur
used to provide ..
I will still use cetane improver/ anti-gel in the winter for easier starting
fuel gelling prevention ..
Thank you everyone. From the many (and varied) responses, seems like some do and some don't. Favorite brands are varied too.
So, I will give it a try using a different brand each time I refuel until I find one I like, or until I decide whether they seem to make a difference or not. I don't plan on spending much time in the really cold climates, so for winterizing purposes, I think that is not going to be necessary.
Hopefully you will not see me on the side of the, but if you do PLEASE don't stop just to say "See? I told you so!"
I’ve used pm-22 or power service maybe 5% of the time in many 100’s of thousands of miles on the cp4 and didn’t realize there was such an overwhelming issue. Guess I need to step up the additive.
When I had my 05’ 6.0 I used stanadyne every tank. 187k before I popped the head gaskets. No injector issues. I did also keep up in maintenance which probably helped a lot.
whatever makes you sleep well at night. There’s also the fact if you are trading trucks off every 3 years it’s probably not worth the $$.
