I have a 95 F150 4x4, e4OD, 4x4 5.8l...trans recently serviced and all runs great. It's pretty stock and the PO never did any serious towing or hauling. I plan to tow a large boat (7k lbs) just a few times a year over a small mountain range to the coast in Northern Ca....about 150 miles.
Is the stock trans cooler sufficient? What recomendations to keep the Old E4OD happy? I understand they don't like heat...so again, am I fine with the stock cooler? Suggestions? Advice?
The truck tows the boat fine the 20 to 30 miles each way from The marina to the house or to the shop for service.
I'd install a transmission temperature and get an idea how its preforming when you're towing the boat.
If you're able to do the Mark K full fluid exchange I'd do that along with using a transmission flushing kit to clear the existing cooler and the radiator cooler too.

...and mount the sensor in the pan. I installed a cooler from a 99+ F-250 Powerstroke because it was twice the size as mine and it was also a stacked plate design which is better for cooling, instead of a tube and fin type.

IIRC Mark K has suggested a transmission temperature sensor be installed in the case rather than the pan as it would be a better indication of the ATF's actual temperature. If I'm mistaken someone please correct me.
Only mount it in the pan if you are interested in the coolest possible trans temperature. If you want to read the REAL trans temp, install the sensor in the test port on the driver's side of the trans.

The cooler from a 99-2003 Powerstroke is tiny. You want a cooler from a 2003-2007 6.0L Powerstroke.

Either type will be an improvement, with the 2003+ be a larger cooler and likely more efficient indeed.
I installed the 99-03 cooler back in 2005 because it was twice the size of my factory piece and didn't require too many alterations. I've driven mine to the track with a loaded utility trailer over many years, unhooked the trailer and raced many passes (a majority of those being hot passes), then loaded everything back up and drove it home.
