98 F150 pinging with no code

I bought a 98 f150 4.6l 5 speed with more problems then I can list and after fixing all of them there’s one I can’t figure out. The truck pings when under load like going up hills or on the highway. I had an engine from a parts truck that I rebuilt and swapped into the truck with an all new EGR which I had heard a faulty one can cause a ping. At this point in time I’ve ran the truck for 5k miles with no check engine light or code but it continues to ping. I did take a mass air flow sensor from a different truck that to my knowledge didn’t ping. I also tried unplugging it and I heard my truck would run worse but honestly it ran about the same except it didn’t ping. I do know the check engine light works as it’s been on before (a lot) and just to make sure it still works I tested it. I’m stumped at this point without a code I’m not really sure where to look. If anyone can help Id appreciate it!

I would suspect the knock sensor of not doing it job.

I might be remembering something never said but aren't the knock sensors R&R-able without removing the intake? I know it would be one **** kicking deal but maybe somewhat easier than pulling the intake.

I might be thinking of the CHT sensor though...............
