Trans swap
You do not need to change the solenoid pack, it will work but you have to change the plug.
The solenoid packs are different:
- 1994 and earlier have diodes in the pack, the computer does not.
- 1995 and later DO NOT have diodes in the pack, the computer does.
You can use a 1994 diode solenoid pack with a 1996 computer with diodes, no problem.
You CANNOT use a 1995 or 1996 non diode solenoid pack with a non diode 1994 or earlier computer with out diodes, you fry the computer.
Other internal differences are:
- front pump, 1994 E9 casting, 1996 F5 casting, newer pumps more volume
- valve bodies are different, different wormholes different routing
- 1994 does not have center support bearing upgrade, 1996 does have
- basic 1994 have aluminum 3 pinion planetary gears, 1996 may have 4 or 6 pinion steel.
- sun shells different
- other various upgrades differ, springs, clips, sprags, etc.
If the 1994 trans was rebuilt 'properly', with all upgrades, it 'should' include all the upgrades, and be the same as the newer trans.
I would find out if the rebuilt trans has the newer center support bearing, if not, you could be downgrading from what you have.
