Leaving a stop sign, tranny had just shifted into 2nd when the dash gauges flatlined and it lost throttle control. Starts and idles fine, shifts into D and R and moves at an idle, but no response to throttle at all. Since it starts and idles, I assume its not the ICM, any chance its NOT the ECM?
Shorted TCS (Transmission Control Switch) wire in shift lever would be my first guess. It blows the fuse for the instrument panel cluster (which also supplies power to the idle validation switch (IVS) on the accelerator pedal) when the isulation chafes on the top of the steering column where the wire exits the shift lever.
cleatus12r, you are my new best friend! The dash cluster fuse (per the owner's manual)#16 was fine, but the diesel dash cluster is #19....the blown one! a 10 amp fuse got it rolling again so next weekend I get to chase down the short. Thanks for sharing your experience!

just go to ford and get a new shift lever, repairs on a wire that moves that much are temporary.
