Hi all,
I have recently obtained a new project, on paper it's a 1978 Ford F-150 Ranger XLT.
Front axle looks like it came off an older truck.
I replaced the power steering pump and am in the process of doing a new column and see that I have the "power assist" set up.
Recommendations on how to proceed? I have seen many posts that suggest use of the actual 78-79 equipment.
Best economical/bolt on solution recommendations would be very welcome. Thanks
Well it’s got the 77 and earlier style steering setup, I’m guessing that’s an 73-75 chassis by my guess. I’ve never seen the hydro assist on a f150 before
I guess I will chime in.1st off I have never seen power assist steering on an F150,it was only on a 73-77 F250.The steering box looks like a manual box with a dropped pitman arm, but the tie rod should be mounted from the bottom of the arm not the top.Unless the arm was reamed correctly to accept the end it will have play not work properly. The only thing that I see that is correct is the drag link and trac bar is on the same angle which is what you want. What I would do is swap a ps box and drag link for a 78/79 F150 or Bronco and get rid of the manual box and power assist stuff.
