Dear wheel experts.. I was finally able to find a set of OEM aluminum wheels for my E250. But when I started cleaning them up, I noticed the edges (See attached pictures). The outside edges of the rims are rough, so much so that it has me wondering if this edge is normal or not. Is this the way these wheels were manufactured, or is this some kind of damage? - Thank you in advance.
Thanks for the reply. I thought about them running flat or even without tires (!) but that edge is on a bevel such that I don't think it would make contact and wear across the face like that. They are in great condition otherwise. Must be tire changer wear-and-tear on that soft aluminum. They are stamped "Aug 10, 1997" and I'm guessing they have seen a lot of miles. I will file a little of the roughness away and carry on..
That roughness you're seeing shouldn't affect how well the tire seals against the wheel. I don't know I'd start filing anything just yet--the tire sealing surface seems to be perfectly fine from what I can see. Honestly the roughness you see is just how the wheels were made----probably a million or so of them running around in similar shape.

Thank you JWA. Poking around, I've come across several other sets that look like this, so I'll chalk it up as "typical" and wont worry about it. Now on to polishing!
