Yes, the intensifier piston oring is the only thing that separates the oil from the fuel internally.

A leaking oil side will cause terrible drivability/idling issues and at worst a no start due to low oil pressure.

If the oil side was leaking, I would imagine I would at least get a little smoke on start up and wouldn’t have a perfect oil level after driving 4K miles right? Between no drivability or regular idle issues, and what I just said, that’s what made me think the injectors are in fact not bad, and not the culprit

“Romping” is the term that popped up time and time again when I researched my issue. When I start the truck the RPM jumps from roughly 400 to roughly 600 repeatedly. If I let it sit, it does that until it dies. If I hold the throttle and keep RPM off 1000 for a second or two, the truck idles fine and runs fine until the next start up

excuse my lack of understanding of the internals of these injectors, but based on that, couldn’t I just pull the valve covers and turn the truck on and look to see if their is oil mixed in the fuel as it comes out?

like I said, I don’t have a deep understanding of these injectors, so if you could advise me on how to tell if this is my issue that would be very much appreciated. I am not super interested in dropping over $1000 on injectors unless I know for sure that this is my issue

sorry, I didn’t realize I said that backwards. I mean fuel mixed in the oil as it comes out. I’m assuming that’s what the video you just showed was?

You'd have to have the injectors tested by a reputable shop to rule them out, but it's highly likely something in the LPOP/HPOP path. Injectors are just one of the components.

Oil should not flow past the poppet valve when closed. Calibration fluid is what you see coming out of the injector in the video.

gotcha, thank you for the help. I’ll have to look into shops in my area to test them. Probably do that when I’m in there doing valve springs and some other small stuff. For now I’ll probably go down the LPOP path since it’s a faster and cheaper project and is the original pump. Perks of having a full service history

Hmmm. Any issues with driving? Mine started at 14F without being plugged in back in Feb when Houston was shutdown via 'The Freeze'

I have oil consumption of around 1qt per 1000 miles. No external leaks, aside from a mildly weepy oil pan to block. The higher the HPOP pressure (which corresponds with the tune) the more oil I consume. Truck has some remans in it, no clue when or who installed. Orings are new, Alliant.

Could have a bad intensifier oring or intensifier piston with wear where the oring contacts.
