Return fuel line fitting replacement

Has anyone tried this fitting to solve the breakage issue on the return fuel line? It appears to be well made but I am wondering if the connection to the filter has a good seal that will stand up over time.

Just eliminate the entire crappy plastic filter with a one-time cost and then use less expensive high quality Baldwin spin-on filters from then on.

Will this interfere with the factory warranty?

That is the question I'm interested in as well. Last oil change with filters was over $300 at the dealer. I paid for it as an attempt to justify a higher quality aftermarket option with the better 3/4. She's very cost oriented and a savings over time will make it easier to justify the initial expense.

I don't think there is any doubt that any issue that they consider fuel related would not be covered under warranty. I have never seen a source where you could buy only the frame mounted filter so you would still be paying for both filters. I would just like to make the existing setup as reliable as possible and the fitting I posted seems like it would do just that. My only concern is how secure the seal is to the filter.

Was that synthetic oil? Regardless, if you did it yourself it could have been done for half that(with synthetic), or less. That's where the biggest savings will be.

There could be additional savings from the aftermarket filter, but you run into the issue of the frame mounted filter as posted above.

All Motorcraft. Rotation, oil, and fuel filters, plus an additional hour of billed labor for the filters. I did it on purpose because the redundant fuel filters are a stupid design due to breakage and what not. It'll be easier to convince the wife for fuel filter design upgrades as long as warranty isn't voided.

Well yes, being a dealership service, Motorcraft oil and parts are a given. I believe they call that the "Works". Probably the standard fill from the pump, you would have had to request synthetic and it would have cost even more. The thing is, if your wife is truly a numbers person, the biggest savings can be had by doing the service yourself. Like I said, you can do a synthetic oil change(something like Rotella T6), with Motorcraft filter AND Motorcraft fuel filters for half of what the dealer charged. If you plan to continue using the dealer for maintenance service, with the only difference being the aftermarket fuel filter, I don't see the savings. Like the other poster mentioned, you would still have to purchase the OE fuel filter set to get the lower filter. So it would actually cost you more.

So while I don't see the cost savings, I do understand the potential benifit over the weak oem filter.

Initial investment would be high, but over the period of ownership, there will be a savings. I'm quite capable of doing an oil change, and the fuel filters as well, but paying for the convenience of not getting dirty, dealing with waste oil and filters, as well as having a record of service is all factored into the purchase. The first "Works" oil change was tolerable, but when the fuel filters were introduced the price was less than satisfactory.

Granted the WIX kit is $50.79 and the Motorcraft kit is $54.79 from RockAuto you still are forced to use the dubious connectors that are prone to breakage. I simply want to eliminate any chance of breakage and the ancillary costs that come with it.

That is where you lose me. How will there be savings if you still need to purchase the OEM or equivalent filter set to get the frame mounted filter?

To the O.P., I purchased the aluminum fuel line fitting from accurate diesel about a month ago after breaking my plastic one while installing the S&S DPK. It works perfectly and was a much better option than $175 for an entire fuel line package from Ford.

Thank you very much for posting this information. It is exactly what I needed to know. I am in Canada so adding the exchange rate and a very high shipping charge makes this a fairly expensive purchase so I wanted to be sure it was worth it.
Thanks again,
Gary

Is that one fitting the one to look out for? Just bought the aluminum one but now not sure about the other fittings.

Because I'll be doing it myself versus the dealer. Shame on me for not mentioning that. No dealer labor costs.

Yes. It's a smaller diameter hose and fitting than the other two, and the barb on it breaks very easily. I was apparently leaning on it or something while fighting with the DPI install and broke it.
