Hail storm

Well hell I got hailed on. We were at a cabin in Hill City S.D. with no protection from the sky. Most of us had damage. My question is it hard to pop out the dings on the aluminum? Also the windshield was lost . Truck is 2019 xlt with 302a so not the big $ windshield. I do not want an after market windshield . Has anyone had hail damage and what was your experience ?

Thanks.

Even the big $$ windshield is only $450ish.
I've not had hail damage but a PDR guy shouldn't have any issues as long as there isn't a crease.

There's some differences in how the PDR folks work on aluminum vs steel, but it's not voodoo and any competent shop should be able to handle this just fine. Get your insurance claim started and don't freak out.

A 2019 XLT would have had the more expensive sound screen windshield and the IPMA which will need calibration. However it's all going to be under the same comprehensive insurance claim. if the hail damage is severe the truck is almost guaranteed a total loss. Hail damage is very hard to fix and blend the repairs. Post up some pictures!

Buddies 2020 got some hail damage and it was no big deal to get out. He works in a body shop at a Ford dealer but they subcontract the dent repair out to a guy that goes around and does it for a living, he's really good and can get dents out that you would never think were possible. Some of the lighter dents might pop out from sitting in the sun and heat, at least I've been told that can happen.

I will try and get some pics in the morning. The main damage is hood and top of cab. One large dent above left passenger which is right on the edge and popped the paint . A couple dings in the sides left and right.

This is the important thing right here. Start your insurance claim and don't worry too much about the details.

Estimate came in at $7800.00 . They want to replace the hood and roof. Not sold on replacing the roof. Might have them fix it the conventional way as the ribs are not hurt I just know about replacing the roof.

Be prepared to swap out insurance companies when the time comes. We had Baseball size hail here. My Company Owned van looked like someone took a big Ball pin hammer to it. Our vehicles were in the garage, no damage. Total loss on the house roof. Vehicle insurance went to 150% “Even after I pointed out no damage to vehicles.” House Insurance almost doubled.

you end up paying for large hailstorms either way, so for sure no point in not claiming. And also always worthwhile to price-check your insurance every year or two.
