Adarac Countour Series Height

Hi folks - I want to add a ladder rack that will work with an inside the rails tonneau. I also would like to keep it fairly low profile and top out just above the cab roof to protect it while hauling long items. Adarac looks like a good option, but I am curious if anyone is running it that can give me their experience or photos? I measure 25” above bed rail for peak of roof on my truck. The rack is 27”, but I have the option of using 25” with a custom order. I am suspicious that the dimensions provided either won’t include the cross bar or they are from the mounting rail, not the bed side (ie spec the actual upright). I’ve talked to customer service and they said dim is to top of rail, but before I drop the coin I figured I’d ask.

Also, these things aren’t cheap, but better than the Thule slide rail system. I can’t find any discounts anywhere, but if someone knows of one for agricover, access, or Adarac could you point me in the right direction?

Just in case someone is looking and comes upon this thread. I bought the Adarac contour rack in flat black with standard uprights. The top of the rail off the bed is 27.5” by my measurement. Putting a 2x4 across it, I have about 3” clearance off the roof. That’s probably good for carrying something that might bow a bit or an upside down canoe. Given the option again, I probably would have went with the 2” shorter uprights which would have put me a lot closer to roof level. It might have blocked my bed camera though and put the top of my roof at risk for scratching for the long stuff. Would have looked a little less utilitarian though.

Also, the flat black looks nice, but I think it will scratch pretty easy. If you plan on doing any real work with it, the standard aluminum finish would probably look nicer over time.

Here you can see that the rack sticks up above the cab a little bit.

Those adarac items look flimsy. 3" of clearance above the cab is too close for comfort, especially with loads that may flex.
Does the Adarac allow for the cross-members to be easily removed when not needed? Was main reason I went with the BAK Revolver & Tracrak ...

Nah I don’t think it is flimsy at all to be honest. I’ve run steel pipe racks on work trucks my whole life and I wouldn’t shy away from loading the Adarac the same way. The cross member doesn’t come out easy, but the uprights come off by removing two bolts. I was planning on leaving the side rails on and removing the uprights when not in use, but I think I will just leave it on after getting it put together. I 100% agree though, I’d want all that clearance if I was really using this as a work truck daily. I’d like to think I’ll be hauling 40’ ladders and 2x8s with my truck, but reality is that it will see a lot of kayaks and fishing poles. Always good to have the ability to use it as intended if needed though.

if you crawl up in the back of the truck often, I’d think you’d want that removable cross member or you’d get a headbanger more often than not.

I have Adarack and regularly take the whole upright unit off front and rear by just removing the two base mount bolts for each mount.

I don't know if I viewed the correct Adarac model, but what I saw said its capacity is 500#. The Tracrac is rated for 1,250#. I've hauled several 16' long boards up there, plus a 32' ladder ... on my short bed F250..

500# rating is correct and that is assuming even loading. If you think you might exceed that, the Tracrac or even more typical contractors rack would be more appropriate. I don't think I'll ever be that heavy and if I was, I'd be a little worried about the impact to handling, but I can see how someone might easily get to that capacity.

Just in case someone ends up finding this thread researching Adarac, I am picking up a little bit of whistling with my rack at highway speeds. Not loud, but noticeable with the radio off. Might be the optional tiedowns I have in the rails or it might be the joints where the contour happens on the uprights. I've also seen where yakima or thule have wind deflectors on their crossbars, so maybe they are creating noise? I know some folks are more concerned with noise than others. What I consider negligible could be deal breaker for the next person.
