And if you had really paid attention to the person I was referring to in my previous post, you would have known that I was talking about the vehicle of the person who said that SYNC sucks and not the OP.

Since the backup camera is a required safety item, the second you put it in reverse it fires up the camera, bypassing the APIM and it’s boot sequence, but as a result any of the features that are part of the camera through the APIM are also not live yet, even though you have a picture. That is why just waiting, or go back to park and then reverse again after it has booted gives you the features back.
