2000 Ford excursion V10 solenoid pack

2000 Ford excursion V10 solenoid pack

I have done a lot of troubleshooting and narrowed it down to (maybe) a faulty solenoid pack. Before I did some digging the excursion would only move in reverse, had no forward gears. Someone suggested unplugging the solenoid harness trigging “limp mode” possibly giving me some forward gears. I did and it did give me some forward gears allowing me to go 30mph (did not want to push it more than that) so I’ve narrowed it down to the solenoid pack possibly failing I’ve removed it and is there anyway to see signs on what has failed just by looking at the outside. Or would it have to be completely disassembled? If anyone has any insight while I wait for the new solenoid pack to come in please let me know.

Stuff like this usually breaks by a wire winding breaking, solder joint breaking down, something that goes intermittent. You can't see the problem with the naked eye unless you start busting stuff open.

If you use an ohm meter and check each circuit, since it fully failed apparently, you would probably find an open (or a short) somewhere. Stick the thing in the freezer, let it cool way down, and check it again, and I bet the circuit closes.

Was the failure temperature related? Or did it just "go" all at once?

I bought the car at auction everything seemed fine until I got the truck home and it wouldn’t drive. So I don’t know how or when it happened but I think the original owner new about the issue. The trans fluid looked brand new, had new trans pan gasket and new filter. I ordered a new solenoid block in hopes that’s all it is. Underneath the car looks very clean I’ll check the solenoid harness and see if it has any damage.
