this may be a dumb question...but how do i adjust the idle control settings on my truck? right now it kicks up to about 1100 to 1200 rpm in the cold weather. i've been reading some posts here and everyone seems to have their own thoughts on what to set the idle at. can i leave it where it's at or should i bump it up a little? thx.
You can't adjust the idle unless you buy/make an auxillary idle controller. If you buy one you can get one for as cheap as $150, if you make one you can do it for $20 worth of parts.
i may be mistaken, but i'm pretty sure that my truck already has an auxillary idle controller. when i start it up in the cold morning and let it idle a few minutes, it will kick itself up to a higher rpm....am i mistaken about this? thx.
That's not an auxillary idle controller, that's a built in program that came from the factory. If you had an auxillary idle controller it would be mounted somewhere inside your truck by the dash and plugged in near the bottom center under the dash. Unless you have a visible device you don't have one.
ok, i see. thanks for setting me straight there. so much to know so little time. bear with me here.....i ran some psd's where i used to work...they had power take off's installed to supply the gusto for a hydraulic water pump in the bed. in the cabs, right next to the shifter were units allowing a person to set idle and so forth while operating the pto and pump. is that little electronic gizmo what you all are refering to when you say auxillary idle controller?
