The time has come to trash my e4od I have a 97 f350 with a 351W. I wanted a manual but the zf5 is pricey and I don’t find myself towing much so I don’t need the stronger gears. I have the new process tranny with the correct bell housing but how am I to go about this what am I gonna need and for the love of god does anyone sell a template to cut the hole in my floor boards I have a donor truck an f150 with a 300 inline but none of the guts inside the bell housing are there cept an input shaft please help me out with what I’m gonna need I have some good friends willing to help me but no guidance as to what to buy
The 300 bell will work the 351w. The "guts" are the throw-out bearing and clutch fork, both of which are available new aftermarket. You'll also need the clutch hydraulics (master, slave, and line). The hard part to find is the slave cylinder bracket that attaches it to the bell and the plastic retainer clip. For some reason those always get tossed even if the bell is saved.
Here's a rough idea of the parts that are different auto to manual:
1. Transmission
2. Bellhousing and slave bracket
3. Clutch
4. Flywheel
5. Starter
6. Pedals
7. Trans tunnel floor plate (there are three different versions: auto, 5-spd, and 4-spd, google for visual differences between the three versions)
8. Driveshafts (manuals are shorter so shafts are longer)
9. ECM tune or swap. An E4OD ECM will set all kinds of error codes and have driveability issues if the E4OD isn't there.
Also the main difference between a ZF and an NP-435 isn't strength (Ford used the NP in F600s fwiw), it's lack of an OD gear on the part of the NP. Your highway RPMs will be 24% higher with the NP.
Why has the time come to trash the e4od? Is it simply because you want a manual transmission or is there something mechanically wrong with it if the F-150 the same body style as your F-350 you could probably just swap out the transmission cover pull up the carpet and just swap them out and if the same body style you should also be able to use the pedal assembly as well.
Run-on sentences are hard to follow what you are saying aren’t they?

Minor note: my '96 has no cover for the trans tunnel (it's an auto) just solid sheet metal. Same for the transfer case shifter, it came as esof and I switched to manual, had to cut the hole. I suspect a '97 would be the same?

Can't say as that I've ever pulled the carpet on a 96/97 but I have on a 95 and it had the same removable plate every other 7th, 8th, and 9th gen has. I've also taken apart super duties (99+) and they have a removable plate too. So 96/97 not having one is news to me.
All that said, the 5-spd one is not the same as the 4-spd one. The 4-spd shifter hole is located as far forward on the plate as it can go. The 5-spd shifter hole is about 2" further back.
