Differences between v6 and v8 4th generation

I'm starting to acquire parts to build a '51 F1 on a 4th generation Explorer/Mountineer/Aviator chassis. I don't plan to use the engine or transmission from the donor vehicle, so I wonder If I need to start with a v8 donor, or if the v6 gives me the same starting point? I hope to use the ECM for some of its functions, so that may be a difference between the two. Can anyone point out any other differences. My truck will be RWD, auto trans, v8.

I myself would probably go 4.6 drivetrain as there should be more aftermarket support there when needed. Then again, it’s a 24-valve 4.6 or a SOHC 4.0 as choices. I’d back off a generation and get a 16-valve 4.6 if I could be choosy.
