Ok, here is one for you that has stumped me. The clutch peddle pressure in my '96 Explorer Sport (85,000 miles) was very light...to the point where I had to push harder and harder in order to shift gears. So I added some fluid to the reservoir. All was fine for about a week (100-200miles) and then the pressure went light again. So, fearing the cylinder was leaking, I added more fluid to reservoir to buy time before I could get it to the shop. However, there has not been a problem since (a few thousand miles). In fact, the clutch pressure feels a little stiff. It seems there was a temporary leak, but of course that does not make sense...at least to me. Any ideas why the fluid level went low, and then remained ok after toping it off twice?
I have a 92, and when i bought it the clutch was like a rock, the fluid level was full, so i thought nothing of it, then recently it started making weird noises when ever i had my foot on the clutch, turns out the baring were bad and i had them do the clutch as well. When they opend it up they said there was a heavey duty clutch in it, now i dont know why the guy before me put one in he never towed with it just put lots of miles on it, now its nice and ez. Anyways when i was at the shop talking to the guy before he did the job he said that the clutch fluid reservoirs sometimes crack and leak, and you cant fix them you have to replace them, he said it can happend naturally or sometimes he had it happend just from putting a new clutch in, so you might need a new reservoir, you said you have 85k on the truck its probally almost time for a new clutch, they ussually only last like 90k sometimes less sometimes more depending on the driver and driving conditons, good luck hope it turns out well, oh and for an FYI I paid 500 for mine with labor, but i knew the guy so he saved me a 100 buck so it would be 600, thats with out the reservoir, it would me more with it, but luckely mine was fine....good luck
