66 F100 429 Conversion

New here to forum and was told I should refresh this topic with a new post. I have a 1966 F100 (brand new project) with a running FE352 presently. I have a 1969 429 that I really want to put in this truck and just sell the 352. I started out going 352 with a stroker kit, but the 429 sure is attractive and 80% built (probably a 550-600 hp motor), weight of the 429 is around 600LBS. At the same time I do the engine conversion I want to change out both front and rear suspension (will be a frame off restoration). I considered the crown vic swap and an all new QA1 suspension. I don't know enough to decide, so looking for advice. I found a motor mount kit for the crown vic / 429 swap, but have not spoke with QA1 yet about their system taking a 429. The advice I have seen on this site is incredible, so hoping one of you ford geniuses can offer a tip or two. Here is a pic of the truck today, with a long ways to go, obviously. I really want to keep the same/similar ride height as shown here. Thanks. Jody

I weighed the 429 long block in a 71 Mustang years ago and just happened to write all that down. The long block with no accessories weighs 640# by the time you dress it to run you will be over 700#. Add another 200# for a C6. That's a lot of weight for a stock CV suspension.
Also a stock C9VE motor is going to be at least 10.5-1 compression. You will have to be aware of what cam is in it or you might find yourself having to burn race gas.

I am wanting to put a new set of aluminum performance (street use) heads on my 429. I presently have C9VEA's with 2.2 and 1.7 valves (told 73CC, but have not measured). They have lower flow than I wanted, despite being ported and polished. (best = 299 intake/165 exhaust, crashing at 600 lift). Looking for aluminum head specifications to get to around 600HP? Here is what I have and would appreciate any help/advice for heads.
  • 429 bored 40 over (4.40 bore/3.59 stroke)
  • Forged crank and Eagle H-Beam Rods
  • Flat top single relief pistons
  • Hydraulic roller cam (Intake duration 294, exhaust duration 300)(Intake at 0.050 lift I-242/E-24) (Intake Valve Lift .553/Exhaust .572) 110 lobe separation (3000 stall minimum for converter)
  • Weiland Stealth 8012 dual plane high rise intake (ported and polished)
  • Demon 850 Carburator
  • C-6 TRansmission (3000 stall)
Thanks in advance.

You might want to re-post this in the 385 forum. Big Block V8 - 385 Series (6.1/370, 7.0/429, 7.5/460) - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums (ford-trucks.com)
You're getting about all the flow a D0VE-A head can do. The exhaust could be a little better but not much. I'm sure you can get to that 600 HP number with a 429 but it ain't going to be on pump gas and it will most likely be one miserable SOB to drive on the street.
Keeping what you have and going with a single plane manifold, "which you will have to do anyway", and healthy shot of nitrous might be the cheapest fun.

I’m not sure why someone would put that much money into a 429 without swapping in a 460 crank and pistons.
Bolt-in cubic inch. I wouldn’t recommend a single plane intake. That Stealth manifold is what you want for the street.
Contact Scotty Johnston if you want to know how to make 429/460 HP. He can also provide you with some max ported aftermarket heads, custom camshaft, recurved distributor, etc.

With respect and I mean that. You seems/looks like you have a beautiful running driving truck. I have been down that rabbit hole before in my younger years. I sounds to me that you have way more money than brains IMHO. What do I know Take my advise. Do what you want.

Beautiful pick-up BTW. Not sure where you are with your build, but I am just starting mine. '66 F100 with a 429 with a C6. Trans-Dapt makes a direct bolt in engine mount if keeping the original cross member. I just put it in this weekend. Very easy to do. If you are keeping the original ride height and not planning to do any autocross, you may want to keep the original I-beam front end. )just my opinion) I personally and installing drop beams with a little heavier spring and an axle flip in the back for a little lowered not slammed look. Just getting started, as soon as my front end parts arrive, game on....

Trans-Dapt engine mounts

The day I brought her home.

Ride height I am going for.
