EGR failed when temps were in correct spread range

Looking for thoughts on whether to replace the oil cooler with doing EGR cooler.

Losing coolant, EGR inspection shows coolant when pulling the EGR valve so I need to change it.

I have had no issues with oil/coolant temp spread - consistent at 10 degrees.

I know I’m already there, but don’t like the idea
of spending the money for the new oil cooler with no indication the existing
is plugged up...

06 250, bone stock, 265k miles. Oil cooler was replaced at 112k.

Thoughts?

IMO it is a cheap enough thing to do with everything removed like it is to do the EGR cooler work.

My "06 is consistently below 10* spread. I see closer to 5*. If I was seeing 10* I would think it could be better and replace the cooler. Just depends on how much plugging of the cooler you are comfortable with and your energy level to go back in again if the temps creep up some more. When/if I replace my egr cooler, I will fork out for the Bullet Proof Diesel one as recommended here many times.

How much farther to go…

Have everything a, cleaned up and ready to put back together.

I’m having a nagging in my mind about head gaskets.

As mentioned in first post, $265k on the clock. I have never pulled heavy for any length of time, until EGR failed truck was running well with normal running temps in the 195-200 range.

I know it’s a matter of time before the gaskets need to be replaced.

Thoughts on just installing ARP studs before they blow or just pull the heads, have them surfaced and then install new gaskets and ARPs?

My thoughts on the head gaskets is leave them alone. If they are not leaking there is no need to tear further into this motor then needed.

A little late to your thread - have you already done the STC fitting and Dummy Plugs/Standpipes? I would have done those if I went that deep...

x2 on the leave the heads alone, particularly on a stock late 6.0...
