My truck is a 95 F150 two wheel drive this is my problem. For years my truck would wander from side to side like it was out of alignment. Over the past three years I have replaced.
Tie rods
Upper and lower ball joints
Steering box and adjusted to Ford specs 14 to 24 inch pounds on the steering wheel nut with pitman arm disconnected and fluid drained from pump and gear box.
I beam bushings
Shocks
Wheel bearing's with new brake rotor's
Michelin LTX Defender tires.
Wheels balanced
The only thing I didn't replace are the front coil springs which appear to look good, no sagging on either side.I replaced the Radis arm bushing ten years ago with neoprene bushings..
I am at a lose to what is causing this wandering. Any guru's out there that have any suggestions. Truck is in really great shape.
I've found if my toe is set at zero or toed out at all, the truck is a handful to keep in my lane. Toe in of 1/8" works great. One issue with TTB or TIB front axles, any change in ride height will change the toe. Higher ride height, toe-in. Lower ride height, toe-out. This is because the steering linkage geometry is decent but not perfect. The tie rods & axle beams pivot in different locations and are different lengths, thus they follow different arcs during suspension travel.
Another source of wandering can be excessively high tire pressure. Some tires seem to be more prone to this than others. Don't run max pressure the tire can handle unless you need it: really loading the truck down.
