Gonna try a few others in town this weekend - maybe someone else has some.
You have to be very careful with what an auto parts store says is right in their computer, and what is actually right. Remember, what "Bob's auto parts" lists for your truck may be just the closest plug there is, not the specific application that's needed. I went to Schucks asking for 'plugs' for my Zetec, and was given Autolites. I knew no better, so I installed them. When I pulled the Motorcrafts out I noticed the electrodes were very small, but I thought they were just worn, so I continued on. After months of frustration I was told my a Ford parts guy that my motor took a special plug. So soemtimes the plug in the auto parts house is just the plug they have to sell you, not what's right for your rig. Call the manufacturer, usually a good parts guy will tell you if there's a difference between the Motorcraft and an accessorry plug. Just don't ask him on a saturday morning when there's 50 people in line, wait til he's got time to shoot the breeze. And make sure you buy something from him once in a while. A plug can be the correct length, the correct thread type, the correct heat range, and STILL not be the right plug for your engine. I found this out the hard way. So do a little research before you spend $4 each times ten at Lucky's Pawn Shop and Auto Parts House for some plugs. Maybe they're right, but then again,,,, ??
I would have to agree on the issue of being careful what an autopart dealer says... Autozone gave me one part number for Motorcraft plugs, O'reillys had a different model number for Motorcraft and finally just went to the dealer; there was a different part number too!!!
speaking of plugs, the plugs in the new 3 valve 5.4
Has anyone else seen them ? Is that a different design or what ? They reach really deep into the head, way past where the threads stop and then there's a horseshoe shaped electrode that connects on both sides, very unusual. I wonder what the design philosophy is for that plug.
Finally got around to installing the new plugs... not anywhere near as bad as it was made out to be. Took an hour & a half or so, taking my time and in no hurry.
Old plugs were not that bad, pass side bank were all worn a as wide as .059, drivers side bank was all gapped at or UNDER spec (this was a bit confusing). truck is right around 75k miles BTW.
