Wire/Connector Identification

Good afternoon,

2004 F-350 Lariat:

There is a 2 pin connector and the front of the truck, above the driver side headlight. It’s a two pin connector not connected to anything.

The wires appear to be Green/Red and Yellow/Black.

I have looked everywhere and don’t know what it is for.

Any ideas?

The 2 pin connector and location you are describing is the location for the Daytime Running Lamp Resistor.

Vehicles sold in Canada require DRLs, and Ford's solution was to use the headlights with reduced intensity.

The resistor dissipates into heat what would otherwise have been the full brightness of the headlights without the resistor.

The DRL resistor module plugs into the 2 pin connector above the driver's side headlight under the hood, and the DRL relay module plugs into another connector that is hidden behind the glovebox / passenger air bag inside the cab.

If you want to use your headlights all the time while driving, at a reduced intensity, by adding DRLs, then you can search the many posts and threads on FTE where members have plugged in the DRL resistor module to that connector you want to "do" something with, and add the relay module under the dash, and in some model years, change out the headlight switch, and then you can burn up your headlamp bulbs faster by having them on all the time.

Otherwise, the connector can simply stay as you found it, where it has done no harm for the last 17 years. I have the same unused connector in my 2000, in the same location, that didn't need my doing anything to it in order to use the truck as it came.
