Just got my '04 F250 Crew Cab last week, and I am looking at the pile of stereo equipment pulled from my last vehicle. I am anxious to get the stereo project going in this new truck, but I am somewhat stuck on the subwoofer part.
My truck has the XLT Sport Black leather interior, so it has captain's chairs up front with the console in the middle. In the back, there is a split folding bench. I don't think there is any room under the rear bench on these '04s for anything, since there is a metal folding cargo floor under the rear seat. This leaves me with not too many options for subwoofer placement. I have seen the JL Audio Stealthbox for the center console, and was wondering if anyone here has one and could share their thoughts on it.
Basically, I have two big Alpine V12 amps- one 4 channel and one 2 channel, an Alpine CD Player, Alpine Digital EQ/Spectrum Analyzer, etc. I just need to buy door speakers, and figure out this subwoofer issue. Also, where is everyone mounting their amps? I am looking to do no cutting, etc to this nice new truck.
The JL audio Stealth box is very surprising for a single 10" sub friend has one in his 99 F-250.
Qlogic makes a single 12" box only console that fits behind the factory console that has a couple of drink holders for the rear passengers.
I am not sure on the 04 model but they do have rear seat raising kits that lifts the back seat up about 4 inches that allow sub boxes to be slid under them.
Thanks for the reply. My local shop wants to build something similar to the Q-Logic box you describe above, but I am not too sure about that. Mostly because I am not thrilled with the idea of losing the rear seat foot room. That box sounds like it would make it hard to carry more than two people in the back seat.
The JL Audio box sounds like a great idea, but I just wish I could hear one before spending the $500+ on it.
Thanks for the input. Yesterday I went to my local stereo shop and they checked out my truck. The '04s now have a folding metal cargo floor underneath the rear split bench seat. The seat flips up and then you unfold this metal floor and it gives you a really nice solid metal flat loading surface. The problem is that it takes up ALL of the room under the seat, and now we are brainstorming on where to mount the amps.
I've seen installs where the sub box was behind the rear seat, and the amps were mounted to the wall next to the sub box. I have an 03 so my amp is going under the rear seat.
