To my more learned friends here, I have been stumped. Some time back I was having ele. issues, a mechanic said sometimes the vss can be bad. So I got one from NAPA, installed it and the speedo from about 45+ was bouncing like drummer in a hard rock band. So that wasn't the problem with my other ele. issues, reinstalled my original and all better. Some months later I got another one from different parts supplier and same issue.. Just looking at them the only difference was the original "probe" was smooth and round. The new ones had a "Scallop" type design around the "probe" Has anyone experienced this. I'm not sure If there are any different mfg.s that would work. My original is working now so this would be for future reference. Thanks
I can’t help with the differences but it sounds like there was a bad connection at the sensor so when you unplugged it and plugged it back in it cleaned the contacts.
I changed it to new,, back to original,, got another new changed it then changed it back to original again, all using dielectric grease. It only screws up with a new vss and from different stores and different brands, !- NAPA and 2. Car Quest. I am wondering if any new one will work?? might try Ford Parts to see if theirs is any different. Lucky that my original still works I guess just trying to solve the problem before there is one.
I would advise you to stop using dielectric grease in electrical connectors and get electrical grease such as Motorcraft XG-12.
Last I looked this part is still available from Ford. I do know that the the sensor has to be the right distance from the tone ring or it won't work properly.
Thanks for the input on the diele. grease. Next time I get under the beast I'll take out the original and measure from base of probe up to the mounting surface and check it against the 2nd one I bought and have not returned yet.
