Help with power steering pump

My power steering pump is going out. It leaks like a sieve and is making the whining noise. Here's a picture of it. I am hoping someone can tell me what kind it is and information on the rebuild. Also, where would I buy all the parts? Thanks for your time.

It is a Ford pencil neck pump. You might find parts from Red Head Steering gears or Blue Top steering Gears, but it is just easier to buy a rebuilt or new one from your local auto parts store.

If I get one from the auto parts store, will it bolt up to my bracket or would I have to modify anything?

You can get rebuild kits. This will help with the rebuild.

NPD sells an all-new pump as well, for another option: https://www.npdlink.com/product/pump...0331?year=1972

That’s what I ended up doing. I don’t have many miles on it yet but it’s working well.

Ford/Thompson "pencil neck" P/S pump has a steel reservoir. The P/S pressure hose threads onto the pump.

Applications: 1967/77 F100/350 // 1971/74 Econoline // 1973/77 Bronco /// 1967/77 FoMoCo Passenger Cars except 1972/77 with Hydro-Boost.

Pump and seal kit should be available from all auto parts stores. NOTE: 1965/66 P/S pump is different, but the seal kit is the same 1965/77.

Thanks everyone! Really appreciate the help. I was wondering do you think I would have to replace the reservoir as well? And what about buying a refurbish pump?

Reservoir comes with the pump, but you will need to use your old pulley. A P/S pulley puller will be necessary to remove it, usually rented by auto parts stores.

Rock auto carries seal kits in stock. Here is a video I had saved to my desktop to do my PS pump. Mine ended up just being a hose fitting.
This is on a 60 something mustang but its the same pump.

2X buying one rebuilt at a local auto parts store. You would get a warranty and if there is a problem with it, you simply drive it to the local store. No down time or freight involved.
The important thing is getting all of the air out of the system once one is installed. Once you fill the reservoir and before you put the belt on, use a drill to spin the pump. In the front of the pump's shaft you will see a hex hole. Use that to spin the pump. This isn't as necessary with a Thompson pump compared to a 1978/ CII pump, but a precaution.
