Front axle strength?
Hi y'all, I'm new to the forum but so far have been very impressed with the participants knowlege....so maybe you can give me some ideas. I have an '85 b2 with a 351w transplant under way. I have read in these pages that i can swap in an 8.8 rearend from a ranger with little mods, this beefs up the rear but what about the front? I ve heard that Jeep cherokee's with solid front axles will swap but is the strength any better or worth the effort? Thank you for any help you can give.

Newer jeeps have D35 rear and a D30 front. Your easiest swaps are probably an Explorer D35 TTB or if you want to go solid axle, find a D44 from an early Bronco.
An 8.8 from an Explorer will have stronger axles than an 8.8 from a Ranger. (31 spline vs 28 spline, I believe).

sorry it took so long to reply rich, The explorer 35/8.8 will probably be my plan of attack, but if that gives me trouble down the road the dana 44 sounds good. Are the old bronco axles roughly the same width as th bII's? Hopefully wont have to find out but just curious...Thanks again for your help!
