Wheel & Tire clearance

Can someone measure the distance between the frame and inside lip of a regular F-100 rear fender? My wheel and tire combo is 21" from frame to outside edge of my tire.

Surprised you haven't received a reply on this one. Loads of F100 owners here. Maybe this will bump this to the top. My F500 won't help ya. Help him out team!

Thanks Calvin. I would have thought I'd have gotten an answer by now too! I got a real good deal on some steel wide rims but they have a super deep dish to them.

I would have expected three responses in a few hours in the old days. I need to get the 53 back together so I can answer these questions. I will go measure my frame to outside of current tire even though the bed is off. I know that will fit with a bit of margin. Back in a few to edit this post.

EDIT: 19 1/4" from frame to widest part of tire near the top. Based on my memory I'd say another 1/2" and you are severely pushing your luck of rubbing problems without massaging the fender lip. I am running 4 spring leafs so my suspension is softer than average so many would have more margin for error than I do. Bet you get some slightly different answers when others respond. I'm pretty comfortable saying 19 1/4 will be zero problems for anything not insanely lowered.

19 1/2 is about how wide my current rim and tire combo is and they fit with no rubbing. But I too have all the beds off my trucks so I couldn't measure one of mine. I'm not sure what these rims came off of but the have a REALLY deep dish pushing everything out further than my current rim.

If you are another inch out it's likely a problem on a stock fender. I calculated what I could get by with and subtracted half an inch IIRC. Your suspension matters though. You don't have to clear the fattest part of the tire but you likely need to tuck some of the bulge on a hard bump. I am going to guess 20" is a problem on most stock sheet metal.

I just measured my 54 rear fender. From the frame to the inside lip of the fender at the front is 18 3/4" and 17 1/2" at the rear. From the outside of the box to the inside lip right over the tire is only 11".

Hope that helps.

On my pickup the measurement from the frame to the outside bulge of the tire is 18 3/4" and have stock fenders..this is with an Explorer rear axle, rims are 8 x 15 with a 4" back spacing and a 1/4 " spacer to center the rim within the 11 " space between the box side and fender lip..
