SMS Fabric - is 50+ year old cloth durable?

I'm curious what everyone's experience is with the SMS cloth? They have the green Shetland plaid cloth I need to redo my '70 F-250's seats. But, I wonder how durable the cloth would be after sitting so long? I could cover it with a cheap seat cover to keep it lasting longer, but that wouldn't matter if the cloth's brittle or something. Plopping my fat bottom on that seat a few times might break up the fabric. This won't be a trailer queen truck.

Anyone's thoughts? Experience? Alternate sources for modern matching cloth?

That would depend on how its been stored and preserved. Element exposure, sitting on the shelf in a non climate controlled environment, UV exposure. Those are all things that cause fabrics to deteriorate. If it has been stored in proper climate controlled facilities, it could be as sturdy as the day it was manufactured. I have no real experience with SMS or old fabrics, but this is their business so I would hope they are using the right preservation methods.

If I had two pennies to give, that would be it, but you know the coin shortage and all.
