Unhappy no heat

Hi, I would like alittle help with this one. I have no heat in my 1993 Ford E150 conversion van. Already replaced the thermostat 5 times. Replaced all hoses. Replaced radiator and cap. Now they tell me it could be the heater core(there is no leakage or smell of anti-freeze) which I doubt or the heater switch under my dash not the sliding lever. They said it controlls the heat vs. air-conditioning. If it is the switch, how do I replace it. They want to charge me $600.00 labor for a $27.00 part. HELP! :confused

When the motor is warm, are the heater hoses at the firewall warm as well?? If not, the heater core may be clogged. A good flush of the heater core may clear out any sludge. You can do that without removing the core. $600 labor seems high just to replace the core.

Wink Thanks for the advice.

After checking the hoses, they both were warm so I decided to take out the heater core. It was not as easy as the older cars were. The whole job should only take you about two hours to change out after you know what you are doing. First you remove the blower cover. next remove the pass. door runner to access the side panel to get to the inner blower cover. next free up the core from the holder by pulling out. Then go outside to the motor compartment to release the quick connects on the hoses which I was not familiar with. After ripping half the skin off the back of my hand I freed-up the core and removed it. Then replace the core and put everything back together. The core had sludge in it preventing the water to flow through. Also, you might want to check your rear lines going to your back heater if you have them, under the van along side of the driver's side, they will be rusted out. The job took me 5 hours altogether. But it was worth the experience and the savings of $540.00. thanks again and I hope this helps the next person.

Talking Blendor Door

I just got done replacing the blendor door in my father-in-laws 97 Ford van (4.6 V8). It had also broke where the motor/actuator attached to the door. We got another door from the local dealership for $145...they said it is "New and Improved"...I think the only thing new is the part number itself. I guess we will have to wait and see.

We removed the quick disconnects going into the heater core with a tool from are local parts store that we were able to borrow with a $12 dollar deposit. It took a great deal of jerking a pulling but we were able to get them off. Ford also has an O-ring kit for the quick disconnects and it made putting the peices back together very easy.

Its a hard long job for a peice of plastic! but thanks to all the posts to this site, we were able to learn alot before starting. THANKS
