What could cause a broken pushrod (broken clean in two and can't find the other half) for one cylinder and a severely bent pushrod (looks like an emergency brake adjustment tool) for another cylinder. this problem was just discovered last Saturday 1973 460 with heads casting number D3VE-A2A. the broken pushrod was laying there when we pulled off the valve cover. The vehicle is rarely driven
anyone seen something like that before
thanks for the tip 85e150 when a valve sticks and results in a bent rod is the head actually bad or can you just lubricate it and put them back in with new rods. is it wise just to get different ones. i cant find anyone that services these anymore. like a dying art
The head is not automatically deemed "bad" when this problem comes up. It is primarily hardened deposits on the valve stems that cause the issue. Sometimes a little snake oil will loosen them up, sometimes you need a tear down.
I would not straighten and reuse a bent pushrod. Measure the good ones and buy a replacement. They do come in different lengths to accomodate head surfacing or block decking, so check the length of severa and make sure they are all the same.
thanks for the tip that makes sense. We usually just use this vehicle 1959 Ford B-600 bus for about two weeks out of the year. I try and start it throughout the year but corrosion is definite possibility. ill mix up some snake oil
