I want to buy the Nav module for my 2019 Super duty xlt. I watched the installation YouTube video and its pretty easy...plug and play. the question I have is, since the nav module is oem, do I need to have a re-flash? My dealership says I do but I'm totally convinced.
The navigation is part of the APIM module. You will need to do the programming yourself with forscan. The dealership is unable to do this programming because of the as builts associated with your Vin. There is past write ups on doing this.
This reply shows the module swap on my 2021 XL to add NAV.
It was a part swap w/o any programming required.
Yes if you buy a APIM thats already been programmed to your truck by vin. The OP was asking about buy one of of many cheap ones off Ebay I assumed. Those will require programming.

Thanks for any help.
Save the cash and headaches and just use you phone via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
The maps on your phone as well as other navigation apps such as Magic Earth are more up to date and are constantly updated for free.
Curious if you've looked into just using Apple car play or Android auto for navigation? I upgraded from the 4.2 screen to an 8" screen without Nav and use Apple car play and am very happy with it. Saved 100.00 at least.
I have been away from cell coverage several times and am glad I had a GPS nav unit installed in my truck. With that said I use CarPlay more then the installed Nav.
If you install the module won't you need the antenna to make it capture the signals?

This is a good point. I had forgotten but had the same issue a few years back. We had a family weekend in the NC mountains, with 4 or 5 cabins rented but not all in the same location. No one had consistent cell service and everyone had a really tough time finding their cabin except my group. We were in my brothers 2016 Super duty and once the destination was loaded into his nav it took us right to the cabin. Good reason to have the factory Nav which I had forgotten about.

I like the Nav in my wife's F150 (it's the same nav as the Super Duties), but it is one thing that holds me back from ordering a new F350. It...isn't always accurate, nor does it always take the best routes.
Hers has taken us down SEVERAL dirt roads that we didn't need to go down, and once insisted we cross a bridge that had been closed and torn out about 10 years ago. This is on a 2019 truck. I know the maps are usually a couple years behind, but that was a bit ridiculous.
That said, Google or Apple maps have both also taken me down some questionable roads, and several fire trails, because that was apparently the road I didn't need to take.
I have NOT had that issue with the GPS in my Power Wagon.

If you use Google maps check into offline maps. You can download a large area for use when you don’t have cell coverage.

I had the same experience with my 2019. The navigation system's logic and data were just a bit off and I couldn't really trust the system. I upgraded the maps to the latest version in late 2020 or early 2021 (I can't remember). I believe the most current version is NA 1 19. This is a night-and-day game changer as compared to the NA 1 18 mapset that was loaded from the factory.
Before this upgrade I would corroborate my Ford Nav with Google maps on my phone. Every time. Since this upgrade, I no longer do that. After a couple of months, I found that I could trust my Ford Nav.

I have had Google maps take me across a 1 lane dirt road through a forest. I don't know how Google even knew it was there. There wasn't even a place to pass someone coming the other way had I run into someone. Maybe Google knew I was in a Jeep and would appreciate a goat path?
