I just bought a 1997 F-250 extended cab with a turbo charged 7.3 lit diesel engine.
I'm a semi retired mechanic on disability an I've been working on this truck (off & on) for 8 yrs.
It has an all new front end (including two lower baller joints), new brakes and rotors & drums all the way around.
A diesel shop (when I wasn't around) did a boatload of eng work (new fuel distribution unit and injectors.
95% new rubber all around.
New alternator & belt.
The guy was hurting for coin an asked me 1st if I wanted it for $3,500. I jumped on it.
Problem. I put on a new alternator, but it keeps eating belts. When bought the Alternator it came complete with the pulley, but from what I undersyand we should've gotten the alternator w/o the pulley and swaped the old one over because engine came from an ambulance & the pully on the alternator on the ambulance eng is a tad wider then a regular F-250 7.3?
Has anyone else encounted this problem & if yes where can I get the proper alternator pulley.
Does it keep jumping over the groove? It so make sure your belt tensioner is not damaged. You can check just by looking at it from the top, pulley should be align with the rest if not new tensioner is needed
