AC problem, please help

Hello, I have a 1990 Bronco with 5.0. My AC compressor failed, so I replaced it, the accumulator, the cycling switch, and the orfice tube. The orfice tube was severely clogged with metal fragments. I flushed the evaporator, condenser, and lines with a ac flush and high pressure air. I vacuumed the system and refilled with oil and 134 freon. Things initially worked well for about 20 min. Now my compressor will only come on for 1 or 2 second, then off for at least 15 seconds, so the system will not cool. I'm handy with cars, but not super knowledgeable about AC systems specifically. Any ideas would be very appreciated.
Thank you

Been awhile since I have played with my Bronco's AC or any for that matter other than basic servicing.
My first thought on the cycling would be the low pressure switch may be doing its job and not letting the compressor run because of low pressure. Put a gauge on the system and check your low and high pressures.

Also if you missed any garbage in the system it will clog everything up again.

My Bronco is at my folks house so no visual references and it is a 90..

I did have gauges on it. Low pressure was fluctuating between about 45 and 25, high pressure was never reaching 120. System was full of freon. I just opened it back up, and it turns out I had the orfice tube in backwards, plus it was fairly clogged again with more metal shavings. Hopefully that was the problem.

Technically, no it was not. Freon is a brand name for R-12 refrigerant kinda like Kleenex is a brand of tissues.

Hopefully that was the last of the debris in the system and you have it sorted out. Did you use an oil compatible with both refrigerants and adjust the amount of R-134a you put in the system? It does not take the same amount of R-134a to fill the system as noted on the tag for R-12.

Thanks for the reply. Does anyone know if a clogged orfice tube (or clogged anything in the system) would allow the low pressure to drop but not the high pressure to climb?

Update: orfice tube in backwards was not the problem. I think the condenser may have been clogged. Replaced condenser (and evaporator just because it was the only component that wasn't new) and now it works good. Thanks for the input.
