Best truck cap

I've decided that it is time to replace my 2011 F250 truck cap. I have an ARE now that kept out water for a could of years, it now seams to collect water.

What are the best water resistant hard cap types out now? My last research was 10-years ago when I bought what I have, so I'm hoping things have improved.

Thanks

Are you talking about hard fiberglass bed covers when you say bed cap?

The best cap is the one you never buy. Leer and Century are perennial go to's, both give you a great tunnel effect for creating multiple blind spots and trailering difficulty. Get a tri-fold or hard top tonneau and be happy to look back.

I've been using my current cap (fiberglass shell) for 10-years with no issue. I move large loads and dogs in my bed, so a tri-fold or tonneau isn't an option.

I know the "go to" brands, I've got one with ARE. I'm just curious if anyone has a brand and style that has been more waterproof.

I think they're all waterproof until the seals start separating from the shell around the windows. If they were waterproof when new, you should be able to repair them to be waterproof again... it just takes a little maintenance, and some good adhesive.

BTW, I have a 2012 Leer on my truck, and it's waterproof everywhere except the rear window. I'll get that fixed this summer, because I don't want the carpeting in the bed to get moldy in the winter.

I have a leer I bought used for a good price and love it. It does need some new seals and latches though.

I have a snugtop. The only seal I needed to replace was the one on the bottom where the cap sits on the rails and the rear window seal. Total cost $90. ……as far as shells having gotten better….no…they are no different. I would go look at resealing the rubber seals before i plunked down 4k for another shell. Most camper shell places can reseal the camper fir a few hundred bucks

Ditto on the reseal. Had an ARE on my 2000 for 16 years, never garaged never leaked. Have a Century on the 2016, no leaks. I would think the seals have improved over the years compared to the caps.

I bought exactly this model of cap used for my F-350 long bed. Mine's black too. I like it a lot. I have to reseal the rear window seals, but that appears to be the only leak on mine.
