Angry distributor Problem

Hey guys, Im a new member here, but a long time viewer. Anyway, my 91 f 150 has a 302, with fords TFI system as you all know. The problem im having is when im driving through water offroad, pretty deep, about one and a half feet, it splashes all over the engine, no problem right? wrong, some how it finds its way into the distributor and starts and engine misfire and you can smell unburnt fuel along with very poor power. If i let it sit all night the next morning I suspose the water evaporates and its all back to normal, or i can pull the cap and dry it up right there and its back to normal right then. there is only a very little bit of water inside ever , never alot. so thinking that the accell cap i have was leaking around the flange its clamped onto the distributor, I put some form-a-gasket there. Well, besides the cap wont come off any more with out busting it, it thill has the water problem, the only other place i can think of is the breather , but the hole is so small and its like a 90 degree trap setup i dont think that could ever be the source of the water entry into the distributor. The truck has 163,000 on the distributor 40,000 on the block , The wires arnt the source either (accell 8.8)

Welcome to FTE. I guess you will have to bust the cap to get it off. There is probably a way to waterproff the cap, maybe a piece of inner tube wrapped around the bottom. A tiny bit of water will short out the spark.

Yes, especially when the dist is out front where the fan throws water all over it. Mustangs had a rubber boot that fit over the dist and the wires.

Another solution would be to get some of that dielectric grease, and smear some around the cap, and gob it on each wire before you plug it into the top of the cap. I would also put some on the sparkplug end of the wires too.
