E4OD Torque converter
E4OD Torque converter
Hey ,
Great forum here,
Truck is a 1993 F150 , 4.9.
I experienced the infamous 'torque converter shudder' , which was a vibration ( something like driving in the breakdown lane speedstrips on the highway} ,when the engine is under a load.
Well I followed the advice on the internet and changed the tranny fluid ( drained TC as well) and it dramatically reduced the vibration.
However it would still occur in OD.
I followed more advice and switched the fluid to mercon V. This had no effect.
Meanwhile the truck has made a light rapping sound at idle for as long as I can remember and i could not tell where it was coming from, but within the last couple of days the rapping has become much louder and now I know it is definately coming from the torque converter.
Can anyone offer some insight as to what is going here , and the relationship between the rapping and the shudder.
Thanks
John..
