New 2021 F350 Lariat.
The ED is sometimes just black. Nothing. Radio works and cameras display but everything, black.
Shut truck off. Start back up. Black. Come back 30 min later, then it works again.
In other words, its not a repeatable scenario so how the hell do I get this warranty work done when it's not repeatable consistently?
I had a similar issue. I ended up taking my truck to the dealer while it was happening. They had to capture it for warranty reasons while it was happening. At first they thought it was the APIM then they did a complete software reload and that fixed the issue.
You’re probably holding one of the best troubleshooting tools you can own in your hand. Take video to show the technicians. They still need to see it in person, but it can help them verify or lead them down a path toward resolution.
This has happened to me twice, turning the truck off and back on has fixed it. My next step would be re-booting sync using pwr + fwd seek. I cant induce the black screen, both times were random. But in both instances ive found that I jumped in the truck and put it in reserve in almost the same instant, I didnt give it a few seconds to boot up.
Ive also found that if I dont give the sync system a few seconds after starting the truck before moving, that when I back up to my trailer, I can't "zoom in" on the hitch view, the zoom button doesnt work. If I give the system a few seconds after starting it will work every time.
I had this happen last week. While I was driving it went black and then came back on in around 5 minutes. I figured it got a download from Ford for the SYNC system.
As stated above video it when it is happen and have the service writer leave the ticket open along with sending in the video. This should get the ball rolling on the fix.
