pretty much in almost 10K miles never got an indication that the anti collision system was doing anything...until yesterday.
car stops short about 5 car lengths a head of me....and I get a display message letting me know that the anti collision system was activated...felt nothing.
so not like the commercial of the woman on her phone and the car stops the car dead in tis tracks a few inches from a little girl.
what do the anti collision system do....when does it do it...
anyone have any "save by my anti collision system " stories.
or is this one of the features like the water remover that you can say you have one...but it doesnt really work.
I've had the collision system make a ton of racket more than a few times, but I'm not willing to tempt fate and let the truck try to stop itself. I don't have the adaptive cruise or 360 camera system so I know the truck is reading the distance to the vehicle in front of me by the system integrated with the rearview mirror. There is some kind of camera or IR emitter or radar or whatever buried in the boxes in front of the mirror. It works at making a ton of racket and turning the dashboard red and flashy, but I'm just not ready to not hit the brakes and let technology take over.
How to Enable or Disable Automatic Emergency Braking
The Pre-Collision Assist System cannot be disabled, but you can choose to disable the Active Braking feature.
From the Settings menu, select Driver Assist > Pre-Collision.
Toggle Active Braking on or off.
With Active Braking disabled, the Ford Pre-Collision Assist will notify you when a collision risk is detected but will not assist in braking to avoid a collision.
How to Adjust Alert Sensitivity
From the Settings menu, select Driver Assist > Pre-Collision > Alert Sensitivity.
Choose between High, Normal and Low sensitivity settings.
Note: High means earlier, more frequent warnings. Low means fewer warnings.
I'm on my 3rd XLT. I smashed one right into a concrete wall at highway speed and never got anything on the dash. No nanny systems here. I had a Fusion rental that would make a lot of noise and flash things on the dash at you if you got too close but I don't recall it ever intervening. That system was absolutely not designed for Boston traffic..
Do you have the automatic cruise control? If not, the collision avoidance system is pretty much worthless. The automatic cruise control (ACC) uses a radar sensor above the front bumper, called the cruise control module, (C-CM). With ACC installed, the collision avoidance system uses the C-CM with the Image Processing Module (IMPA). If you don't have the ACC, collision avoidance system uses only the IMPA, and the system works like crap. In 16k miles, my "collision avoidance system" has only flashed once, when another car cut in front of me at 5 or 6 feet. I'd be interested to know if the guys with ACC thinks that their "collision avoidance system" works any better.
It is AEB Automatic Emergency Braking, and it only automatically engages the brakes when the vehicles is travelling below the threshold speed, which I believe is 20 MPH.
Mine triggers regularly. If a car in front of me is turning right, I lift off the throttle instead of braking. The car is far enough in front of me that braking isn't necessary. As the truck rolls toward the turning car, the tone will sound and the HUD will flash on the windshield. I have never had to brake, so I can't tell you how effective the precharged braking is. I assume it works as advertised.
As has been pointed out, the truck will not brake unless you have ACC engaged. That ACC is a wonderful bit of technology.
The option I have is "Pre-Collision assist with AEB". I have looked it up on Fords website and it doesn't say anything about needing ACC. I guess now Im confused because to me - the "W/AEB" option - would actually be Automatic Emergency Braking.......
Very inconsistent. Had it go off and slow down when there was no need for it. Last week a truck with trailer pulled out of intersection with a trailer. Had to slam on brakes and it didn't go off
We were towing our 5th wheel through Atlanta & had a situation where everyone hit the brakes had. I barely touched my brake pedal & thought I was going to fly through the windshield the truck stopped so fast. It was like having a double heart attack.
