I have a fairly new Holley electric fuel pump on my 54 f100. It was installed by the previous owner. I have been told that it should produce about 5 psi of pressure to my Edelbrock carb. How much is too high? 6, 10, 15, etc. I am just ready to install the new fuel pressure gauge tonight. If the pressure is too high, or too low for that matter, is it possible to adjust the pressure on the pump? Or do they come factory set from the store with no adjustment permitted? Thanks, John
John I have a Holley fuel pump feeding an Edelbrock performer it works great. Normal for a holley is 5-6 psi, some of the older high volume pumps will put out up to 12 psi. check your pressure if its higher than 6 get a regulator.
Edelbrocks are a little sensitive to too much pressure. What Cobra said, 6 is about all they want. Regulate it down if its much over that and save washing the engine down with fuel. You can feed an Edelbrock with a bone stock mechanical pump if you run into trouble.
Thanks, guys, I installed the guage last night and went to install the new fuel filter. Then, DOOOT. It was the wrong size, so it's back to Kragen today to get the right one. The good news is that while I was down under the truck, I found what I think is a pressure regulator. I had seen it before, but forgot that it was there. It is about 2.5" square with a large chrome dial on it. Once I get the correct fuel filter, I'll check it out and see about the right pressure. Thanks, John
